THE EDITOR'S REQUEST FOR REVISIONS

Working with the editor can be both scary and rewarding the first time around. It is an editor's job to catch errors the author has overlooked. For me, communicating with my editor, Mary Lee Donovan, was a learning experience I'll never forget. Publishers have specific 'house' styles that they use, and books need to be edited to meet their qualifications. Since editors have a lot of experience in this line of work, my advice to new writers is to trust the editor to know what she's doing and what is best for your book. And that includes cover art. (By the way, please do not submit art work with your manuscript unless you are a professional artist and have the editor's permission to do so. Publishers have a stable of professional artists they prefer to work with.)

Editing for The Haunted Igloo included changing the name of my main character and his mother. At first, I hesitated. But when the reasons were pointed out to me, I agreed, and the book became a much better book.
