THE GALLEY PROOF
Finally! The book is ready to be set into print, after which you will receive a galley proof (if this is stated in your contract). At this point, everything moves very fast as publication day nears. The galley must be proofread carefully to catch errors made by the writer, the editor, or the printer. I was given a deadline of about a week for proofing the galley of The Haunted Igloo and returning it to the publisher. By the time I saw it, there were already a number of notations on the pages and initialed by various proofreaders. I returned my corrections by overnight mail to be sure they were received on time.
